Lake Levels

Current lake height should be used to establish the nearest point of danger below your vessel.

• Chart datum is the lowest theoretical lake level.
• Chart datum for Lake Taupo is 355.85m above Mean Sea Level.
• Depths on a nautical chart are always below chart datum.

For example: depth on the Lake Taupo nautical chart shows 1.1m. Current lake level is 356.85, which is 1.0m above Lake Taupo chart datum (355.85m).  So depth at that position is approximately 2.1m
