Our History

Lake Taupo Volunteer Coastguard has answered the call since it’s formation in 1984. In 1995, Lake Taupo Volunteer Coastguard appealed to the regional community and raised the funding to build DRV “Taupo Rescue”, a 6.8 metre Naiad Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB).

In 2005, CRV "Taupo Rescue" was built, a 9 metre Naiad RIB. Since the arrival of the first "Taupo Rescue" in 1996, the vessels have responded in all weather conditions, day and night to over 300 life threatening incidents. Over 450 people are alive today, due to it’s availability and the dedication of trained Crews, Radio Operators and Marine Controllers.

Craft worth in excess of $5,000,000, which might have become just another wreck on the lake bed, have been brought safely home.
