Radio News February 2015
Welcome to the second newsletter of 2015. The stats for the month were as follows:
- Operator volunteer hours: 141.75
- Calls logged: 387
We had 4 navigational warnings and one call for assistance. A call for a tow was requested on behalf of a vessel that had broken down, although Taupo Rescue was activated it was stood down when the vessel was able to start the engine and return to shore without intervention.
Traffic on the Lake has slowed as per expectation when autumn nears but we still have plenty of activity over the airwaves to keep us all busy. The late shift is becoming very quiet and will be terminated at the end of March as per the norm.
My sincere thanks to the two operators who travelled so far to attend Gary’s VHF course during the month. Gary and I both appreciated your input making this a very interesting evening.
During the month I received emails from CEBES and CER with a request to advertise the courses they run and any upcoming courses within the area over the channel. This was trailed following the 1130 hrs weather over the weekend. Time will tell if this generates any interest and indeed continues.
