Radio News December 2014
This Newsletter welcomes in 2015 and I trust you all enjoyed your festivities celebrating this time.
Stats for December were 144.5 hours logging 451 calls. My thanks to the ROs for your dedication during this busy month with its many Public Holidays requiring extra shifts than the norm. It was as expected a very busy time and a wake up call for us all after the steady time we experienced over the preceding months. It would appear that January will be just as busy.
Their were two incidents during the month, one being handled locally which transpired to be a hoax May-day, and the other handled by CNR where a call was received from a terrified boatie who was en-route from Kinloch Marina to Kawakawa Bay for an overnighter and had become disorientated in the dark. The situation was resolved when the boatie was calmed by the RO and another vessel assisted using there navigation lights as a beacon. This incident shows the importance of reaching you destination before nightfall especially if the boatie is new to the area.
Apart from the Christmas Parade where Mariner One was utilised for dispensing lollies to excited children there is little other to report on for the month. To those of you have assisted in the sale of raffle tickets for the annual CG fundraiser thank you for your support over this busy time.
In closing our condolences go to Dave Herd (No Salt) who sadly lost his wife early in Decemeber, Our thoughts continue to be with you Dave.
